John Vitalo
Chief Executive Officer
John Vitalo was appointed Chief Executive of Absa Capital in July 2005 after Barclays acquired a majority stake in Absa. He is at the forefront of our mission to become South Africa’s leading investment bank. With many years of experience in Trading, Debt Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and business management, he has a broad, well-rounded perspective that is an important contributor to our burgeoning success.
Natasha Andrykowsky
Chief Operating Officer
Natasha Andrykowsky is the Chief Operating Officer of Absa Capital and a member of the Executive Committee. She joined Absa Capital in 2006, initially to run the Office of the CEO, as part of Strategy and Planning and later in the role of the Business Manager for Trading. Prior to joining investment banking she was with the Monitor Group, a global strategy consulting firm where she worked with global clients in South Africa, as well as London, Sao Paolo, Moscow and Hamburg.
Mike Bagguley
Head of Trading
Mike Bagguley was appointed Head of Trading of Absa Capital in July 2006. As a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee, he is responsible for all aspects of the Trading business from executing client transactions to managing the associated market risks in terms of Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income, Equity, Credit and Commodities Trading. Among his responsibilities is the wholesale funding of the entire Absa Group.
Paul Bijleveld
Head of Investment Banking
Paul Bijleveld was appointed Head of Investment Banking of Absa Capital in 2007. He is a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee and is responsible for our Investment Banking division. He has over 20 years of experience in Investment Banking. Paul joined Absa Capital from Barclays Capital in Amsterdam, where he was the Head of Investment Banking for the Netherlands since 2005.
Makhosi Kunene
Chief Administrative Officer
Makhosi Kunene was appointed Chief Administrative Officer of Absa Capital in June 2008. A member of the Executive Committee, her department supports the development and implementation of strategic and operating plans in terms of infrastructure and ensures their alignment with the front office.
André la Grange
Head of Investor Services & Equity Investments
André la Grange is the Head of Investor Services and Equity Investments. He joined Absa in 2003, and has held senior positions with the bank in several areas including specialised finance, corporate finance and merchant banking. Prior to this, la Grange was managing director at PSG Investment Bank, divisional director at Nedcor Investment Bank and Chief Executive of the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
Hestie Loots
Chief Risk Officer
Hestie Loots was appointed Chief Risk Officer of Absa Capital in April 2008. She is a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee and is responsible for Risk Governance and Control, Market Risk, Asset and Liability Management, Investment Risk, Credit Risk, Operational Risk Management and Compliance.
Leslie Maasdorp
Non-Executive Vice-Chairman
Leslie Maasdorp was appointed Non-Executive Vice-Chairman of Absa Capital and Barclays Capital in October 2006. He has more than 17 years of experience in economic policy-making, is a skilled investment banker and has a long list of credentials for developing corporate strategies in the financial services sector.
Charles Russon
Chief Financial Officer
Charles Russon was appointed Chief Financial Officer of Absa Capital in October 2006. He has nearly 15 years of experience in various financial support roles for global markets businesses at some of the world’s premier investment banks. As a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee, he has a broad mandate that includes responsibility for all Chief Financial Officer functions, as well as Absa Capital’s operations and infrastructure. His extended portfolio covers IT, Human Resources, Legal, Compliance, Risk Management, Marketing & Communications, Strategy & Planning, Wealth and Africa.
Andrew Selby
Head of Sales and Research
Andrew Selby was appointed Head of Sales & Research at Absa Capital in 2006. He is a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee and is responsible for the distribution of risk from the balance sheet, as well as marketing all our risk products, including Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income, Interest Rates, Commodities, Credit and Equity Derivatives. His role also includes management of the Research Department.
Stephen van Coller
Head of Primary Markets
Stephen was appointed Head of Primary Markets of Absa Capital in September 2006. He is a member of Absa Capital’s Executive Committee, responsible for all financing product businesses, namely Leveraged Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Global Loans, Structured Equity Finance, Portfolio Management and Structured Capital Markets.
